Our History.
First Missionary Baptist Church was organized in 1944 under the Pastoral Leadership of Rev. W.E. Franklin. It was the first Church established in Marin City, where worship services took place in Rev. Franklin's living room.
Over 70 years later, under the leadership of Rev. Rondall Leggett, FMBC continues to share its Christian vision, witness, and outreach in the Marin community.
Our Beliefs.
THE ONE TRUE GOD
We believe that there is one true and living God, that He is the creator and Father of all things, and that he is the Supreme Ruler of the World. The familiar name given to God by the Hebrews translated into English is Jehovah. This word Jehovah was so reverenced by the Ancient Hebrews that it was not generally pronounced. Its place was taken in speaking by the words Adonai, Lord, Elohim, or El-Shaddai, all of which are expressions for the attributes of God.
THE PERSON AND SONSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST
The Bible teaches that Jesus was a person and was born from Mary's womb. His mother is the selected virgin chosen by God. We believe Jesus fully revealed God to man. We believe that Jesus was both human and divine. Nothing is more central to the Christian faith than knowing who Jesus is. The knowledge of whom He is not only bringing about new life but also a worshipful relationship with God. Our faith as Christians rests upon understanding who Christ is both in His Deity and Humanity. If what Christ accomplished on the cross is to avail man, then it must be the work of the human Jesus. But if the work on the cross is to atone for all humanity, it must be the work of the divine Christ. Understanding who Jesus is gives us a fuller picture of the work He performed. Most importantly, it draws us closer to a relationship with Jesus Christ.
THE DOCTRINE OF THE HOLY GHOST
The word in Hebrew is Ruach, and in Greek is Pneuma-wind, air. In the Scripture, the word Spirit is taken for the Holy Ghost, the third person of the Trinity. (Matthew 28:19). He has perfect knowledge (1 Corinthians 2:11), a mind (Romans 8:27), his love (Romans 15:30), and a will (1 Corinthians 12:11). He can be insulted (Hebrews 10:29), lied to (Acts 5:3), resisted (Acts 7:51), and grieved (Ephesians 4:30). He is much more than a "ghost." The Holy Spirit is equal to God the Father and the Son as the Creator and Sustainer of all things.
Further, the Spirit indwells believers (John 14:16-17), provides spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:1-11), guides them into all truth (John 16:13), and conforms believers to the image of God. He convicts of sin so we will confess and be restored to fellowship: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
THE DOCTRINE OF BAPTISM
We believe in both the Baptism by water and the Baptism of the Spirit. Water Baptism because it shows the sign of obedience. Jesus commanded it, the Spirit, because it is the work of God regenerating the hearts and minds of all who accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. (Mark 1:8:3:16; 16:16).
THE DOCTRINE OF THE LORD'S SUPPER
The Lord's Supper, commonly referred to as "communion," is one of two special ordinances the Lord Himself instituted while He was still on earth. This ordinance of communion commemorates and typifies the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus Christ. Knowing He would soon die, the Lord expressed a deep desire to celebrate a final Passover with His beloved disciples. When the sacred meal was done, Christ broke bread, poured wine, and served it to His disciples. Luke 22: 19-20 says, "And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, 'This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.' In the same way, after the supper, he took the cup, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.'"
It is imperative that Christians periodically take time to ponder and worship Jesus' great sacrifice, lest we forget. The apostle Paul further elaborated on this in his letter to the Corinthians: "For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes" (1 Corinthians 11:26). When we partake of the Lord's Supper, it is a proclamation and embracing of what Christ has done for us. Participating in the Lord's Supper affords us this opportunity.
THE DOCTRINE OF GRACE
Grace is the unmerited favor of God. Grace is God giving the greatest treasure to the least deserving—every one of us. God makes His goodness known and gives man the opportunity to enjoy it without having to pay for enjoyment.
THE DOCTRINE OF REDEMPTION
The word Redemption implies buying back something that has been sold; it means to deliver and bring out of bondage those kept prisoner by the enemy. Adam sold humanity into slavery. Humanity was Satan's Prisoner until Jesus Christ released it.
